July 19th 2009 - A great day in beautiful Maribo, in sunny Denmark and Jill Spencer brought her video camera along, for which we are all very grateful! Fifteen musicians were on stage together from four different countries, so it was a pretty special event and the final concert in the very successful Maribo jazz festival, taking place at the Hylddalen (stadium). It brought together six Hot Five Jazzmakers from Canada, six New Orleans Delights from Denmark & Sweden and three international jazz celebrities, all together under the title Kjeld Brands New Orleans All-Stars. Putting this many players together, for the festivals finale concert, could be considered a bit of a gamble but, under the capable musical direction of trumpeter Derek Winters, it worked like a charm! Having Marilyn Keller, from the USA on centre stage, to sing with us, was the icing on the cake, I thought. Here we are hearing "Anytime" which was the fourth number in the concert and things were thoroughly warmed up by then. All the paired instruments worked together as if they had done this many times before. The reeds were Sarah Spencer tenor sax; Janet Shaw clarinet & alto sax; Kjeld Brandt - clarinet. Trombones - Bengt Hansson & Brian Towers. String basses Stephan Karfve & Brian Day. Trumpet & MC Derek Winters. Cornet - Andrej Saradin. Tenor banjos Erling Lindhart & Jamie Macpherson.
